We can’t wait to get the party started, so here’s a little taste of what’s to come…

According to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, approximately 45,000 Canadians suffer from sudden cardiac arrest each year. This is equivalent to:

The number of people who participate in the world’s largest annual tomato fight in Spain.

It’s equivalent to the number of Barbie dolls sold worldwide in a 6 hour time period.

Three days worth riders on the Behemoth roller coaster at Canada’s Wonderland.

An entirely full Rogers Centre stadium.

The entire population of the NWT.

Defibrillation is the only effective treatment for sudden heart failure by restoring normal rhythm to the heart. Survival rates rise up to 90% or more when AED programs are in place, versus a survival rate of less than 10% with CPR alone.

The best results for defibrillation occur in the first 3 minutes from when the victim collapses and for every 1 minute of delay in defibrillation, the survival rate of the victim decreases by 7-10%. By learning how to use an AED and understanding where you can find them, you can provide the victim with the necessary defibrillation to significantly improve the chances of survival.

Be calm, be confident & think common sense!
